THE ORIGIN

The history of wines in Mexico is naturally linked to the Missionaries who introduced the vines, olive trees and other Mediterranean species when they arrived to Baja California, and when the history of Santo Tomas began.

THE BEGINNING

1870
Loreto Amador acquires the land of the former Mission of Santo Tomas and starts producing wine commercially.

THE EXPANSION

1930
In the 1930s General Abelardo L. Rodriguez (temporary governor of Baja California) bought the winery and hires Esteban Ferro (born in Piedmont) the first winemaker in Mexico.

MODERNIZATION

1962
Elias Pando, business partner of Abelardo Rodriguez, acquires the company.
Aiming to create world class wines, Mr. Elias Pando keeps working with the Enologist Dimitri Tchelistcheff, son of the famous Andrei Tchelistcheff, who introduces: Stainless steel tanks, 225 l.
American oak barrels (Quercus Alba), and cold stabilization.
